Trauma or Nail Biting?

Take a look at the nail in the second photo. Why is this not nail biting damage? Because there is no redness on the nail bed, and it’s smooth. Nail biters start at the free edge, which often looks frayed. 🧐 ⠀

Looking further, you can see the redness around the sinuses, indicating where the nail started to grow back. Additionally, the sides have layers of skin, meaning the finger lacked protection due to the absence of the nail bed. There are also no hangnails. Nail biters usually have hangnails and often inflamed areas around the sinuses, which can lead to paronychia. 😣 ⠀

The condition of the nail plate itself indicates trauma. I’ve never seen such deformation in nail biters. The indentations suggest the nail experienced something sudden and severe. Nail biters gradually thin their nails, making them shorter without such deformations unless they’ve been chewing their fingers like candy. 🍬 ⠀

Be careful during cleaning, and don't roughhouse with the guys without warning them about your nails. I once ripped a nail this way, and it was very painful. 😖 ⠀

Have you ever severely broken a nail? 😱
